ABC Short Story Project
ABC radio short story project is open to Australian residents who live outside the metropolitan areas of major capital cities(though writers from Hobart and Darwin are eligible to enter). stories must be original, previously unpublished, max. 800 words. They should be imaginative but ned not necessarily be fiction, looking for a great yarn that will engage the reader and translate well to radio. Ten winning stories will be produced for radio and broadcast on Radio National and ABC Local Radio stations around Australia. The winning writers will each receive $700. A further 10 runners up will have their stories published on the ABC website and will receive $50.00 ABC short gift vouchers. |

Calibre Prize
Australian Book Review (ABR) and the Copyright Agency Limited (CAL) are calling for entries for the $10,000 Calibre Prize for an outstanding essay.
All non-fiction subjects are eligible, from life writing to literary studies, history to politics, biography to philosophy, natural history to popular science, travel writing to environmental studies. |

Genre Fiction Award
Announcing The New Holland Publishers Australia and The NSW Writers' Centre inaugural Genre Fiction Award.
First prize is publication by New Holland.
Anybody with a novel manuscript in their bottom drawer can enter the Genre Fiction Award for a chance to be published. It is open to all published and unpublished popular fiction adult writers resident in Australia.
Presented by New Holland Publishers and the NSW Writers' Centre, this award is a fantastic opportunity for writers of genre fiction to see their work in print. Genre fiction categories include: crime, adventure, action/thriller, historical, family saga, chic lit, lad lit, romance, science fiction, fantasy, humour and others.
First prize is publication by New Holland Publishers and a 20-hour manuscript development grant from the NSW Writers' Centre. Second prize is a 15-hour manuscript development grant and third prize a 10-hour manuscript development grant. All short-listed entries will also be considered for publication.
Entrants must be members of the NSW Writers' Centre and are asked to initially submit a synopsis and the first three chapters of their novel. Short-listed entrants will then be asked for their full manuscript.
Entries must be received at the NSW Writers' Centre by 5pm on Monday 1 September.
