WRITING THE SHORT STORY WITH PIPPA KAY
Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd April 2007, 10 am to 4 pm.
The short story is making a come-back. It's often thought of as a good starting point for new writers because it doesn't take as long to write as a whole novel. This doesn't mean that a short story is a mini-novel. Nor is it an anecdote. It is commonly defined as: 'a short prose narrative, requiring from a half-hour to one or two hours in its perusal' (Edgar Allan Poe) and requiring characters, a setting or two and a plot.
Bring a couple of your characters along to Pippa Kay's weekend workshop, and learn how to make them come to life in the space of a few thousand words. Learn how to structure a short story and develop a plot. Pippa will also show you how to choose the best point of view for your story's narrator, and help you with any difficulties you may experience with other aspects of the craft, such as settings, dialogue and finding your voice.
This course is suitable for both beginners and more experienced writers, and could be applied to both fiction and non-fiction short stories.

CHARACTERISATION WITH PIPPA KAY
Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th June 2007, 10 am to 4 pm.
How often have you heard an author claim that their characters write their stories for them? Don't you wish your characters would leap off the page and write yours? Whether you are writing a short story or a novel, you need to understand why your characters do the things they do. This course will help you create interesting, credible and memorable characters, who just might write your story for you.
This course is suitable for both beginners and more experienced writers. If your characters are giving you trouble bring them along and we'll get them into shape.
