This
is the group's first anthology.
Introduction
by Peter Loughlin
Writing is a passion and The Common Thread is a group of people who
share that passion. Coming from different parts of the world, the members
bring their own wonderful and unique contributions to the works that
are shared at each meeting and within this volume.
The
original members met in 1999 through a creative writing course. The
teacher, Pippa Kay, invited the more enthusiastic writers to her advanced
Thursday night work group. This was the genesis of the Common Thread.
Since then, members have joined through Pippa's classes, friends, partners
and family. All have taken different paths to reach The Common Thread,
reflecting their vastly different backgrounds and their common passion
for writing.
The
Common Thread meets weekly, although not always for the pursuit of writing.
Sometimes it is for the pursuit of fine food, theatre or fine wines.
The group has been known to spend time talking until three in the morning.
From
such a splendid array of talent, the 2004 Common Thread Anthology brings
together a sample of the group's work. Some of the pieces in this volume
have been drafted and re-drafted, inspirations from the authors put
into words. Other contributions have been especially crafted for this
collection.
We
hope you enjoy the stories and tales written by the authors and that
you are able to escape into the worlds they create. As Pippa always
says: "Show - don't tell!" and so I leave you with the collected
works of the Common Thread to show you what we do ... Enjoy!
