BOOK LAUNCH - DOUBT & CONVICTION

ALAN JONES AT PIPPA KAY'S

BOOK LAUNCH

Doubt & Conviction was launched by broadcaster Alan Jones at the State Library on 18th November, 2002.

He has always been interested in the Kalajzich case and in the early 1990s, prior to the Kalajzich Inquiry he broadcast a number of controversial editorials on the case.

In a letter to Pippa dated 14th October, 2002, he said:

"I'm not frightened about the controversy of the book... [T]here are important questions about this case that have not been answered. I too believe that Andrew, whom I do not know, is innocent. But I also believe that there's something he knows that we don't know. And I don't know why I feel that way."

At the launch, Alan Jones praised Pippa for her thorough and unbiased treatment of the subject.

He added that while no one wanted a guilty man to go free it was just as unthinkable for an innocent man to be jailed for a crime he did not commit. He referred to the Lindy Chamberlain case, and reminded his audience that if we still had a death sentence in Australia, then Lindy, who was innocent of the murder of her baby Azaria, would be dead.

He felt Doubt & Conviction was well-titled and easy to read. He commented on Pippa's skill in telling the story which, despite its complexity, avoids burdening the reader with heavy legalese and is simply told.
